Well-known Jamia alumnus Akhalq Ahmd Khan who lost his mobile in the snatching incident said he has filed an FIR in the matter and now has got his number restored.

“I am well aware of the fact that several snatching incidents have taken place on this road. On Saturday when I was returning from NFC community centre I got a call from a friend, who is unwell. Usually I don’t use my phone while walking on this stretch, but as the call was important I picked up and started talking. After a few minutes two helmet wearing youths on a bike came from behind and snatched my phone. I ran for some 50 metres to catch the bikers but they fled. It was a new mobile phone priced at Rs 1 lakh 30 thousand,” said Khan, who had unsuccessfully contested the AAJMI (Alumni Association of Jamia Millia Islamia) presidential election in 2018.

After the incident he said he was shaken as many a time he has come to know that snatchers even carry blade and use it when somebody resists. “I called my brother and after which I went to a police station and filed a complaint,” he said.
