A bench of Justices Rajiv Shakdher and Talwant Singh dismissed the appeal challenging an order of a single judge on March 5, 2021, that junked a petition challenging the decision to appoint Akhtar as VC of the JMI, according to PTI.

The appeal was filed by M. Ehtesham-ul-haque, an alumni of the Faculty of Law of the varsity. He was represented by Advocate Mobashshir Sarwar, reported livelaw.in

The division bench of the high court had earlier issued notices to the Centre, Central Vigilance Commission, JMI, University Grants Commission (UGC), and Akhtar on the petition.

The petitioner had alleged that Akhtar’s appointment was invalid for the reasons that the search committee was constituted illegally and that she had been denied CVC clearance initially.

A division bench of the Delhi High Court today dismissed an appeal challenging the appointment of Prof. Najma Akhtar as the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI).

The bench comprising Justice Rajiv Shakdher and Justice Talwant Singh upheld the order of the single bench of the Delhi High Court passed on March 5, 2021, which dismissed the petition challenging her appointment.

Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI said she had full faith in the judiciary and the truth has won.
