Watch: Large number of vehicles stuck in jam from Jamia to AFE

Hundreds of vehicles were seen stuck in a massive traffic jam starting from Jamia Millia Islamia to Okhla Head up to Jamia Nagar Police station in Abul Fazal Enclave on Monday at 2.30 pm. Commuters, who were stuck in the jam, said it all started from Jamia school gate to Batla House to Okhla Head and further to a few metres to AFE.

According to Okhla watcher Rizwan Khan, this is not something new. Starting from 1 pm to 4 pm the traffic situation on Okhla road is pathetic as school buses start coming and also there are other issues leading to traffic snarls on a daily basis for years, he said.

Another resident, Javed, said today’s traffic jam was bad. The traffic jam was such that it was the talk of a WhatsApp group with Syed Fouzul Ahmed Azeem saying earlier in the day a breakdown of a bus at Okhla head triggered a traffic jam. Besides, residents who commute on the road regularly said some commuters taking the wrong side also choke the road. It all starts with a small jam and some in a hurry to reach their destination try taking the wrong side causing chaos on the road, said Javed.

For a long time residents have been demanding for deployment of traffic police at busy Okhla Head, Batla House and Jamia roads so that even during school buses arrival to drop wards the roads are not blocked with vehicles. Besides, there has also been demand by residents for installation of traffic signal posts in busy roads.

A resident said deployment of a traffic policeman is must at Okhla Head where work for the bridge is going on.
