Why you should avoid Tikona Park, Jamia right now. There is huge traffic jam.

If you are coming towards Okhla or planning to go somewhere in the city then make sure not to use the Tikona Park and Jamia Millia Islamia road as there is huge traffic jam. The main cause for more than two-hour long gridlock is not known but daily commuters said it is due to Jamia school exams and unattended uprooted trees on the Jamia road during thunderstorm and rain.

Save community journalism by paying Rs 500, 1,000 and more.

And as residents were stuck in the traffic jam, many in hurry to reach their destination started taking wrong side creating more chaos. As the jam lingered, some residents were seen stopping people coming from the wrong side resulting in heated arguments.

Though traffic jam has become a perennial issue in Okhla, one person on way to his officer early morning told the OT that even at 9 there was traffic jam with some coming from wrong side. “Whenever there is exam, chances of road jam increase due to large number of people coming on the campus. Today when I was going to office there was traffic jam. The only solution is traffic police during exam time so that vehicular movements can be managed on the road for a few hours,” said Hashmi.

Moreover, some residents attributed the jam to unattended uprooted trees on the road. They said due to which many people are taking wrong side. It was four days ago when thunderstorm and rain led to uprooting of trees and falling of wall of museum and mausoleum of third President of India, Dr Zakir Husain. No casualties were reported from the campus. Three people had died across the city in the thunderstorm and rain.
