Meet cricket wonderkid Shayan Jamal of Okhla who impressed Oz legend Steve Waugh

Okhla-based Shayan Jamal is talk of the cricketing world with Australian legend Steve Waugh coming all the way from his country to Jasola stadium for the photo shoot for his book Spirit of cricket in India in which Shayan has been featured.

It is this ground where October 24, 2011-born Shayan practices cricket every day under the guidance of his father Arshad Jamal.

Sharing Shayan’s cricketing journey, Arshad said his son’s keen interest in cricket started when he was just 18 months old. After noticing this, Arshad said he bought a bat and ball and made one room of his modest Abul Fazal flat into a pitch for Shayan.

Himself a cricket buff, Arshad taught basic cricketing skills, like batting and bowling, to his son.

Shayan’s first break to cricketing world came when at the age of 4 he played for his school’s U12 team. Since then he has not seen back improving his cricketing skills, said his father.

And also a video of him practicing with senior children went viral. His story has grabbed headlines with several national dailies writing on him.

Shayan’s role model in cricketing world is Virat Kohli and once he said when he grows up he wants to represent his country. This report would be incomplete without the mention of his father who even gave up a well settled job to fulfill his son’s cricketing dream.
