TV reporters come in large number in Shaheen Bagh, know the reason

F block in Shaheen Bagh which usually is quiet place was abuzz with activities today. Reporters turned up in large numbers.

Following which residents started to talk about what actually happened as police also arrived. It was known and widely reported in the media that the probe into the train fire in Kerala in which three people were killed has revealed that the main suspect, Shahrukh Saifi, is from Shaheen Bagh, said the police.

The deceased are Mattannur natives M Rahmath (33), her sister’s daughter Sehra Bathool (2) and Noufeeq 38, according to onmanorama.com

The police visited Saifi’s house in Shaheen Bagh to question his family. His father and grandmother were seen interacting with the media.

Saifi had allegedly left home on Friday (March 31) and his father Fakhruddin said he filed a missing complaint also.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), with the help of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), detained Saifi at a railway station in Ratnagiri late Tuesday, reported the IE, adding that an ATS officer said the accused was handed over to the Kerala Police.

Nighbours who were seen outside his house expressed shock over the development and involvement of a local boy in the gory incident.

“Searches were conducted at his home but nothing was found. His father was questioned. He said his son left the house saying he was going to work but didn’t return. The family tried calling him but his phone was switched off. Later, they lodged a missing persons report on April 2. The agencies have arrested Shahrukh. His parents said they don’t know anything about the case,” an officer told IE, on condition of anonymity.

On April 2, an unidentified man set fire to passengers after pouring petrol on them when the train reached Alappuzha-Kannur Main Executive Express train near Korapuzha bridge near Elathur. Nine people suffered burn injuries and are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

A unit of Delhi Police, along with Kerala Police, searched Shahrukh’s house in Shaheen Bagh.

“Some people have framed him. My son is not part of any organisation nor does he have any criminal record. We will wait for the police investigation to go forward,” Shahrukh’s father Fakkruddin told India Today.
