If there are winners then there are losers too. Dream of many have been shattered as some among them in Okhla who according to many allegedly spent millions of rupees on posters, banners, biryani parties and other things to impress upon the party to give them ticket and failed to get ticket.

There is no exact data how much candidates spent in the buildup to the MCD election but a person close to one candidate said there were many aspirants who spend huge amounts over one year on hoardings, posters, biryani parties and other things.

A few leaders spent huge amount of money to impress senior party leaders to get ticket and local residents but failed to do so, he said on the condition of anonymity, adding that had they spend even a small amount of money on development of Okhla the face of the area would have changed.

However, an Okhla watcher said there was one who did some positive work also and it should be counted. Putting posters and banners in the locality is unethical and illegal as the area is and walls of private residents are spoiled, said one resident.

She said it should be banned in the locality pointing out that after leaders, coaching institutes also play important contributions in defacing the locality and should be penalised.
