Many local residents, including Shahi Imam of Jamia Masjid Ahmed Bukhari, visited Batla House to be part of the tadfeen. A resident told the OT that it was on Saturday at 10 pm when Aftab Hashmi, 75, suffered a heart attack and he was rushed to Holy Family Hospital. Doctors tried their best to revive him but he passed away and his body was brought to the home of Parvez Hashmi at Tikona Park.

Former Okhla MLA Asif Md Khan, who was present in the graveyard, told the OT that Aftab Hashmi used to reside in Abul Fazal Enclave but for the last few days he was staying at his brother’s house. He died of heart attack, he said.

Syed Fouzul Azeem (Arshi), a local Congress leader, said residents are sad after coming to know about it.

Many local residents turned up in large number at the graveyard to condole the death of Parvez Hashmi’s brother.

Besides representing Okhla for three terms, Parvez Hashmi was a Rajya Sabha MP and a Minister in Shiela Dikshit Government in Delhi. He lost to incumbent Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan in the last Assembly election with a huge margin.
