2K complaints in 2 days against parked old vehicles: Delhi’s Transport dept

After the Delhi Transport Department issued a WhatsApp number (8376050050) asking RWAs and market associations to share details about parked old vehicles, the department said it has received nearly 2,000 complaints from them in two days.

The breakdown of complaints locally has not been revealed hence it is not known how many complaints have gone from Jamia Nagar area where it is common to see cars parked on the road.

However, this crackdown is against old vehicles. The development came as last week, the department had told Delhiites against driving old vehicles in the city, saying such vehicles would be immediately impounded.

“Within two days of issuing the number, we received 2,000 complaints from across Delhi. However, the complaints need to be verified. People are sending pictures of vehicles that they feel look old. We have to verify the details of the vehicles’ registration in our database to ascertain whether they are actually overage and unfit for plying on Delhi’s roads,” a senior official said. There are around 25 lakh such vehicles in the national Capital,” an official said.

“If we find vehicles unfit to be parked in public places, our teams will be dispatched, and they will impound the vehicles and immediately hand them to authorised scrapper for scrapping,” the official said.
