Markets in Jamia Nagar were closed on Friday in protest against the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir which killed 26 tourists. This market shut coincided by the trade associations of Delhi call for a “complete shutdown” of markets in Delhi.

Batla House Market Association Waseem Khan said market closure was given on Thursday to protest against killing of civilians in terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. In the evening a candle march was taken out from Zakir Nagar to Batla House where residents raised slogans of “Pakistan Murdabad” and “Hindustan Zindabad” demanding action against terrorists. The march was led by BJP local Muslim leader Wakeel Qureshi. Local residents also participated in the march.

Local leaders Mahmood Ahmed, Saud Khan, Zakir Abbasi and others were present.

This was the second candle march in Okhla as a day ago Advocate and Congress leader Aarfa Khanam took out one in Shaheen Bagh.

On Friday, Muslims attending congregation prayers wore black armbands in Batla House as a mark of protest against the terror attack.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday (April 24, 2025) gave a call to Muslims to wear black armbands in protest. Responding to the call, many staged protests. “Juma Namaz, please do wear black band around your arms to protest the terrorist act perpetrated by LeT in Pahalgam against innocent Indians,” he posted on X on Friday.

Following which, the call was given by AIMIM Delhi unit head Shoaib Jamai. In Delhi, AIMIM’s state president Dr Shoaib Jamai led a peaceful protest during the prayers. “What happened in Pahalgam is extremely unfortunate for our country. Curse be upon those who carried out this heinous act,” said Dr Jamai, who too wore a black band in symbolic protest.

    Across Delhi markets were closed.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) Secretary General and Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk, Praveen Khandelwal, clarified that this bandh is not a political protest, but a peaceful mark of respect and national solidarity.

“The brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of innocent citizens, has caused deep sorrow and anger among the trading community. This is a tribute to the lives lost in Pahalgam. We urge all traders across Delhi to keep their shops closed voluntarily and to ensure the bandh is observed in a peaceful and disciplined manner,” he said.

CAIT has also requested the Delhi Police and administrative authorities to maintain law and order during the bandh and ensure a peaceful environment across all marketplaces.

CTI chairman Brijesh Goyal said more than 100 markets in Delhi will be closed on April 25 in protest against the Pahalgam attack. “Sadar Bazar, Bhagirath Place, Gandhinagar, Naya Bazar, Khari Baoli, Chawdi Bazaar, Hindustan Mercantile Chandni Chowk, Kashmiri Gate, Jama Masjid, Hauzakaji, Meena Bazar, Matiamahal, Kinari Bazaar, Nabi Karim, Multani Dhanda, Delhi Vegetable and Oil Association Khari Bawli, Daryanaganj, nai sadak , bullion association Chandni Chowk, Katra Ashrafi Chandni Chowk, Cloth Market Chandni Chowk, Rajouri Garden Marble Association, kirana Committee Khari Bawli, Mori Gate, Deputy Ganj utensils Market etc. have supported Delhi bandh on 25 April,” he said.
