Asaduddin Owaisi coming to Okhla to drum up support for AIMIM candidates

Among the star campaigners who are to visit Okhla in coming days, include AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi to drum up support for his candidates in Okhla’s wards. Arif Saifi and Nazra Parveen Siddiqi are trying their luck from Zakir Nagar and Abul Fazal Enclave wards.

The exact date of his visit is still not known, however, Delhi State president Kaleemul Hafeez told the OT that most probably Owaisi is to visit Okhla’s wards next week.
To make foray in Delhi, the Hyderabad-based AIMIM and Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad’s outfit Azad Samaj Party (ASP) have tied up to contest on 100 wards in the minority and Dalit-dominated pockets of Delhi.

“The decision to fight the MCD polls together by the two parties was approved by their heads Asaduddin Owasi and Chandra Shekhar Aazad,” Hafeez said.

Both the BJP and AAP have “completely neglected” the areas where Muslims and Dalits live in Delhi, Hafeez alleged. Muslims constitute 15 per cent, and Dalits 16 per cent of the total population in Delhi, he said.

All eyes are on Muslim-dominated Okhla wards where in one AFE-Shaheen Bagh ward, Muslim voters are with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and in Zakir Nagar they have been electing Congress’ Shoaib Danish for the last t three years. It would be interesting to see whether AIMIM is able to win hearts and minds of young voters in this ward or fail like previous year.

The voting for 250 wards of Delhi will be held on December 4. Counting of votes will take place on December 7. Out of 250 wards, 42 are reserved for SC candidates.
