Happy New Year 2022!!! Celebrations muted in Okhla

The New Year celebrations remained muted this year after yellow alert has been imposed on Delhi following increase in Covid cases.

People who were looking forward to welcoming 2022 had to celebrate the year in their homes or virtually due to Covid curb across the national Capital. In Batla House market people, wearing masks, were seen purchasing sweets and chickens and other food items. But with lockdown to begin from 10 pm the area in many places wore a deserted look.

Some hotels and eateries in Abul Fazal Enclave decked their building, wishing visitors with Happy New Year, but the footfall was low as eateries have been allowed to operate at 50 per cent strength. An eatery owner in Abul Fazal Enclave said the footfall is very low due to Covid restriction and only a few people have turned up and as the outlet has to be closed by 10 pm the celebrations certainly is going to be muted.

Usually in post-Covid days, people used to go out late night and there used to be huge rush at eateries and other places in the locality, said a resident, but know all these things are missing as many are preferring to stay indoors and celebrate the New Year praying for the end of the pandemic and things to turn normal across the world.
