Okhla’s high-rise littering problem: Youth shares shocking incident

Okhla resident Anas had come to Abul Fazal Enclave a day ago to get his bike service and while doing so he said some resident from the top floor threw garbage on him. “I was just waiting at one workshop a few metres from the Okhla Vihar Metro Station on AFE-Hari Kothi road when suddenly a bag full of garbage landed on me. I was taken aback. I was lucky that I didn’t sustain injuries but I lost my tempers. This is very uncouth. The person who threw the garbage disappeared in thin air. I was unable to recognise him or her,” he said.

After his work was done, he shared his experience with his friends. Throwing garbage from upper floors is a big issue in Jamia Nagar. A few days ago, workshop owner said educated people reside in these buildings and many are rich but they don’t have any civic sense and to save a few bucks they throw garbage from upper floors and as you can see the nallah is full with polythene packed with garbage. He said there are many people who even throw used condoms from their floors.

Besides high-rise littering problem, residents love to dump garbage in open plots or low-rise building. A resident said how after coming from hospital he found his first-floor roof full with garbage thrown from neighbouring buildings. He said he had to call cleaner to get rid of the garbage.
