    How many Jamia alumni contesting in UP polls?

    How many Jamia alumni contesting in UP polls?

    Campaigning for the UP Assembly elections 2022 is in full swing with polling for the first phase to be held on February 10. Some Jamia Millia Islamia alumni are also in the race.

    Kamal Akhtar is contesting from Kanth in Moradabad and Naeem Ul Hasan from Dhampur in Bijnor, said Jamia alumnus Nasir Sultan Qazi.

    Both Kamla and Naeem are from the SP and during their students’ life they were president of Jamia Students’ Union. The status of BSP leader Shah Alam, who now has joined SP, is not yet known in the first phase, said Qazi, adding that his ticket from Azamgarh’s constituency is yet not confirmed.

    Another alumnus Abdus Salam is contesting from Mubarak in Azamgarh from BSP ticket.

    In the phase, polling will be held for a total of 58 seats in 11 districts of UP. The constituencies which will go for poll include Shamli, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Hapur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Mathura, Agra, and Aligarh.

    With voting to be held on February 10, counting of votes will take place on March 10.

    Voting for 403 seats of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly will be held in seven phases on February 10, 14, 20, 23, and 27 and on March 3 and 7, according to media reports.
