Mother of Peepli Live director, ex-Jamia Hindi dept HOD Azra Rizvi no more

Daughter of famous Urdu poet Gulam Rabbani Taban and first Head of Department (HOD) of Jamia Millia Islamia’s Hindi Department Azra Rizvi is no more, wrote Professor Mahendra Pal Sharma, a message forwarded in alumni group by a Jamia Professor.

Professor Sharma retired from Hindi Department years ago.

Azra Rizvi, 80, passed away at the Max Hospital on May 24.

She was wife of Jamia PVC and officiating Vice-Chancellor Mujeeb Rizvi. Azra Rizvi’s daughter Anusha Rizvi directed Peepli Live, a 2010 Indian Hindi-language satirical comedy film. She has left behind two daughters Meera Rizvi and Anusha.

Film maker and Jamia alumnus Yousuf Saeed wrote on his timeline some 20 hours ago: “My deepest condolences to Meera Rizvi and Anusha Rizvi as their mother Azra Rizvi departs.”
