Defacing walls with posters, roadside garbage dumping continue unchecked

Many residents in Jamia Nagar are deeply upset with posters being put on the walls illegally. A resident said as MCD 2022 elections are coming near, ticket seekers and politicians in their mad rush to attract attention have been found defacing the whole area by putting posters and banners in the locality.

Our newly renovated wall was not even spared, wrote a Shaheen Bagh resident to the OT.

Besides, posterbazzi the area also faces garbage dumping in the open.

Residents are also concerned with advertisement of coaching institutes, hotels and leaders defacing the locality. They said these leaders talk about keeping the area clean but just see for their self promotion they have defaced the whole locality putting their posters and banners all over least bothered about others.

An Okhla watcher said for their self promotion these leaders and ticket seekers are spending lakhs of rupees on posterbazzi with many not even sure whether they will get ticket.

Though posterbazzi throughout the year is a big issue, garbage dumping on roadsides is talk of the city. It is a common thing to see garbage dumped on roadsides.

A Batla House resident said while going to office early in the morning he sees people dumping garbage packed in polythene on roadside. They do this just to save a few bucks and then they blame the authorities for doing little, he said, adding that it is residents’ fault that they shamelessly dump garbage on roadsides or throw them in open plots in the locality.
