Peaceful protest against garbage heaps nearby Al-Shifa in AFE to begin on Sunday

Whenever there is election, the issue of dumping of garbage in the open nearby Al Shifa Hospital and Milli Model School in Abul Fazal Enclave surfaces.

Save community journalism by paying Rs 500, 1,000 and more.

This year also the issue is talk of groups, opposition leaders and activists nursing political ambition. A meeting regarding which was held on Thursday night in AFE under the leadership of QR Illyas, president of Okhla-headquartered Welfare Party of India (WPI).

Reliable sources, who were part of the meeting, said the issue of garbage dumping on road at Hari Kothi road, Kalindi Kunj and open nallah was discussed.

It was decided to raise these burning issues in Friday prayer from a mosque, said the source, adding that on Sunday at 11 pm, a peaceful protest will be started under the leadership of WPI Delhi president Siraj Talib, said the source.

The issue was raised in last civic poll and area AAP councillor had then promised to end the mess, but nothing has happened yet, said a resident requesting anonymity.

Residents might recall that last time before election an activist nursing political ambition had started a peaceful sit-in which ended after some days without any positive outcome.

It would be interesting to see how far the WPI succeeds in achieving its goal of ending the garbage dumping nearby Al Shifa Hospital and getting the nallah covered, said political observers.

They said if the WPI succeeds then certainly its candidate (in case if the party decides to fight in the forthcoming 2022 civic poll) will get an upper hand as residents are deeply upset with the dumping of garbage in the open.
