Delhi Govt to give Rs 1 cr to family of doctor who died of COVID: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Monday that the Delhi government will provide family of Dr Aseem Gupta, LNJP doctor, who died of COVID on Sunday, with an honorary compensation of Rs 1 crore.

Kejriwal said: “Dr Aseem Gupta is an inspiration for us, and the people of Delhi and the people of the entire country salute him for his spirit and his sacrifice. In his honor, the Delhi government will provide his family an honorary compensation of Rs 1 crore. There is no value attached to anyone’s life, people like him smile along the way of sacrificing their lives in serving the people and the country, but this compensation is a small tribute to him on behalf of the people of Delhi and the country.”

Kejriwal on Monday paid tribute to a senior doctor of the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital, who died on Sunday after contracting the COVID-19 earlier in June while treating patients infected with the virus.

Kejriwal tweeted: “Dr Aseem Gupta, a senior doctor of LNJP Hospital succumbed to COVID day. He was known for going out of his way to serve his patients. We have lost a very valuable fighter. Delhi salutes his spirit and sacrifice. I just spoke to his wife and offered my condolences and support.”

Dr Aseem Gupta was an anesthesia specialist in LNJP hospital in Delhi.

Addressing a digital press conference on Monday, Kejriwal said: “Dr Aseem Gupta was deputed on the duty of treating Corona patients. His friends and colleagues told me how he served his patients which much hard work and dedication. While performing his duties treating Corona patients, he was himself tested positive for Corona on June 3. He was admitted to the hospital but unfortunately lost his life while fighting Corona.”

“I had a long conversation with his wife who is also a doctor. She was also contracted by the novel coronavirus but has now thankfully recovered from it. It is because of these doctors that we are able to fight a strong battle against corona,” added the CM.
