    Okhla-based photojournalist Danish to get Journalist of the Year award posthumously

    Pulitzer award-winner Reuters’ photojournalist Danish Siddiqui, a resident of Ghaffar Manzil and alumnus of Jamia Millia Islamia, is to be honoured with the top two RedInk Awards by the Mumbai Press Club on Wednesday.

    Danish, who was laid to rest in Jamia graveyard, died while reporting in Afghanistan in July 15 this year after being caught in crossfire between the Taliban and the Afghan Special Forces in Spin Boldak.

    The Mumbai Press Club in a statement said Danish has been posthumously awarded the Journalist of the Year – 2020 “for his spectrum of the investigative and impactful body of news photography ranging from the Rohingyas and anti-CAA protests to Covid-19 and the Afghanistan Civil War”.

    Danish won globally reputed award in 2018 for his for Feature Photography for his work documenting the Rohingya refugee crisis. He was the only Indian journalist to have this award.

    The awards event is to be held virtually, presided over by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana.

    Senior journalist and author Prem Shankar Jha, 83, has also been honoured for his extraordinary work and contribution to journalism.
