    Made special arrangements at 9 crematoriums, burial ground: SDMC

    In view of increasing number of Covid related deaths, South Delhi Municipal Corporation has made special arrangements at its all 9 crematoriums & burial ground coming under its jurisdiction. To ensure funeral of deceased Covid patients, number of platforms/pyres have also been reserved. Earlier capacity of cremation was 289 per day which has now been augmented to 365. Out of the total capacity, 289 have been reserved for Covid affected bodies. Capacity of 229 wooden platforms/pyres and 30 CNG based platforms/pyres are available for Covid affected bodies at SDMC funeral centres.

    SDMC crematoriums/burial ground located at Punjabi Bagh, Hastsal, Subhash Nagar, Lodhi Road, Sarai Kale Khan, Lal Kuan, ITO, Dwarka Sector 24 and Green Park have cumulative capacity to accommodate 289 deceased Covid patients every day. CNG-based cremation facility is available at Punjabi Bagh, Subhash Nagar, Lodhi Road and Green Park crematoriums. Facility to perform last rites of non-Covid patients is available at one end at these cremation centres/graveyards. The move has been aimed to minimise spread of Covid-19 among people coming there.

    Special focus is being given on sanitation and sanitization as chances of Covid spread is more at these centres. To ensure sanitation and sanitization in a scientific manner, trained staff have been deployed here and proper arrangement of green and blue dustbins have been made so waste segregation could take place in proper manners. Makeshift tents have been made available for relatives and families of deceased who reach at these centres to cremate the bodies.
