On his social media, he announced compensation for the people hit by the fire. He wrote in Hindi: “After being informed about the fire in Jogabai Extenstion, I visited the site to take stock of rehabilitation work and announced Rs 10,000 to the victims and the Delhi Government will give Rs 25, 000 to those hit by the fire.”

Giving statement on the fire, officials said there were no human casualties in the incident.

“A call about the fire in a slum cluster in Batla House area was received at 3:15 pm and 11 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Five cattle died in the incident,” Director of Delhi Fire Services Atul Garg said.

“Around 35-40 huts had caught fire, which was doused by 4:40 pm,” he said.

When the incident took place many residents rushed to provide help to the residents. Wajid, who was eyewitness to the fire, said former Zakir Nagar Councillor Shoaib Danish, reached the spot immediately and joined in fire dousing efforts. In a video, he can be seen throwing water to extinguish the fire. Later on he told the OT that the fire was extinguished
