Khan objected the anti-encroachment drive and sat on the road for a few minutes with his associates. Many residents cried foul over the development. Later on words spread in the locality that Khan was detained with some of his supporters. Shakeel Saifi said suddenly police swung into action and detained the MLA. Some even alleged that force was used by the police. However, a senior police officer denied any instances of lathi-charging and said no force of any sort was used on the protesters, reported The Hindu. Later on several videos of the incident surfaced on the social media with Khan’s supporters sharing it.

    For hours Khan’s supporters were unable to know whether he will be detained or arrested. Late in the night, Khan’s close aide Firoz told the OT over phone that the MLA was arrested and sent to Tihar Jail. Following the development, Khan’s wife Shafia Khan wrote this on the social media: “अमानुतल्लाह खान की गिरफ्तारी असंवैधानिक है, जनता की आवाज़ बुलंद करने पर उन्हें सलाखों के पीछे भेजा गया है। ओखला की आवाम से मेरी गुज़ारिश है कि गिरफ्तारी के विरोध में कल सुबह 9 बजे से शाम 5 बजे तक अपनी दुकानों को बंद रखे ताकि हम भाजपा की इस ज़ालिम सरकार को यह बता सकें कि ओखला की अवाम अपने विधायक के साथ खड़ी है।.”
