Watch: Boy electrocuted trying to retrieve ball from water pump, lands in ICU

A boy landed in the ICU of a local hospital a day ago after he was electrocuted while trying to retrieve a ball from the electric current running water pump, according to residents. After treatment, the 9-year-old boy has returned to his house in the locality and is doing fine, said residents aware of the incident.

Residents avoided talking on the subject on Saturday. However, after the incident the RWA Johri Farm issued a notice on Saturday urging residents to remove water pumps or any electrical gadget from the main road.

The notice dated 29/07/2023 reads: “This is to bring to your urgent notice the unfortunate incident of electrical shock to kid 8-9 yrs in Johri Farm.

“The cause of the electric shock was a water motor installed outside the premises of the house … which had current running on the box as a result of which the kid playing accidentally touched it while fetching his ball and got severe electric shock. The child is admitted in ICU and in critical condition.

“The RWA had requested all residents when an awareness drive was launched to remove the ramps and widening of road was done and it was also highlighted to remove water pumps from some of buildings installed on outside of their building premises along the road. Unfortunately, the request was ignored and today we have this serious accident.

“The RWA has identified many such buildings from most of the lanes and would be contacting the owners to immediately shift any such motor or electrical gadget which might result in any accident.

“You are therefore once again requested to show your sensitivity and responsibility towards your fellow residents and remove any such electrical gadgets. Also for motors installed in parking or premises please get a routine check by your electrician to avoid any such incident and to ensure earthing and insulation is maintained.

“Your timely action in this regard would be highly appreciated.”

A resident aware of the development said the family was lucky that the child recovered and is back in his house with the family.
