    3 Jamia students make university proud

    Three students of Jamia Millia Islamia have made the university proud by their achievement.

    University Polytechnic students, Md Faizan Ashraf, Danish Iqbal, and Md Shahnawaz Khan, have brought laurels to JMI by attaining 1st rank in the coveted National Cube Test Competition – Season 2.

    The event was organised by the Indian Concrete Institute and RDC Concrete at Scope Complex, New Delhi on December 3, 2024. The team was awarded a prize of ₹1,00,000 for their outstanding ability in creating innovative and cost-effective concrete mix solutions which was showcased in the competition.

    This remarkable accomplishment was attained under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Abdul Hameed Siddiqui and Dr. Aftab Alam from the Civil Engineering Section. The competition featured participation from leading institutions nationwide, rendering this award a notable milestone for the University Polytechnic of JMI.

    Vice Chancellor JMI, Professor Mazhar Asif along with the Registrar, Professor Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, conveyed their commendations to the winners. The Vice Chancellor encouraged the Principal of the University Polytechnic to motivate students to engage more actively in national-level competitions.

    The Principal of University Polytechnic, Dr. M A Khan, along with the Head of the Civil Engineering Section, Md.Shahid Akhtar, congratulated both the students and their mentors for their diligence, creativity, and commitment.

    VC unveils new Selfie Point

    In keeping with its creative spirit and culture, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has embarked on an innovative initiative to engage with its students by introducing a striking mural at the Chief Proctor’s Office. The artwork was officially unveiled by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mazhar Asif, during a formal ceremony hosted by the Proctorial Department. The mural has been designated as the university’s selfie point, aimed at fostering a friendly and inviting atmosphere that would positively impact students’ experience as also of the visitors to the university.

    The artwork has been created by Mr. Shah Abul Faiz, an Assistant Proctor and Assistant Professor in the Department of Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts.

    On this occasion, Professor Mazhar Asif highlighted the university’s commitment to channelizing the creative potential of the students and cultivating a vibrant campus. Prof. Asif said, “This initiative demonstrates Jamia’s dedication to fostering a dynamic and inclusive campus atmosphere that encourages creativity and enhances student engagement.”

    The Chief Proctor, Prof Naved Jamal, welcomed the Vice Chancellor who was accompanied by Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar JMI, along with Dr. Satya Prakash Prasad, OSD to the Vice-Chancellor and other esteemed guests.

    Following the unveiling of the mural, Prof.Mazhar Asif visited the Proctocial Department and congratulated the staff for their sincere efforts towards upholding discipline and security on campus

    The program experienced enthusiastic participation from the Proctorial team, which included representatives from both the school and university sectors, along with teaching and now teaching personnel of JMI.

    Monash University Professor delivers lecture

    The Department of Educational Studies, Faculty of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), hosted the 19th Prof. S. C. Shukla Memorial Lecture at Mir Anis Hall, Jamia Millia Islamia, commemorating the life and legacy of one of India’s most eminent educationists, Prof. S. C. Shukla (1927–1999). Prof. Harjeet Kaur Bhatia introduced the distinguished speaker, Prof. Manisha Priyam (Professor Of Education Policy at NIEPA and also Sir Louis Matheson Distinguished Professor at Monash University, Melbourne), and situated the relevance of her scholarship in understanding critical discourses in education. Prof. Kaushal Kishore, Head of the Department emphasised Prof. Shukla’s transformative contributions to education as an academic, policy advisor, and global thinker.

    Prof. Anita Rastogi, Former Head of the Department, traced the history of Prof. S. C. Shukla Memorial Lectures and Prof. Shukla’s association with the erstwhile Teachers’ College and the Department of Foundations of Education (now Department of Educational Studies).

    Setting the context for the 19 th SCS Memorial Lecture, Prof. Rastogi also underscored the significance of perpetuating Prof. Shukla’s ideas and promoting critical discourse in education. Prof. Arshad Ikram Ahmad highlighted Prof. Shukla’s pioneering work, particularly his focus on democratizing education and crafting inclusive policies to bridge educational disparities.
