Bodies of 2 teen boys retrieved from Yamuna, search on to find 1 more

It was a day ago on April 14 when the published report about four boys who had gone to play near the Yamuna in Kalindi Kunj area drowned with one body being fished out in rescue operation. In the latest development, two more bodies have been recovered while the search is still on to find one more body.

The incident had taken place on Wednesday evening leaving the family members of all residents of Jaitpur Extension in Khadda Colony in deep shock.

Two more bodies were retrieved from the Yamuna on Thursday, police said. After the rescue team succeeded in retrieving bodies of Mohammad Ali (11) and his cousin Sahil (13) from the river the search is still on to find Rihaan (13), they added.

It was on Wednesday when the body of Farman (13) was retrieved from the river.

Local residents said when the boys, who had gone to play near the river, didn’t turn up, family members and neighbours got worried and turned up at the river bank looking for them. After not finding them, as they were about to return a resident informed them about the clothes near the river bank. Following which, Ali’s father informed the Kalindi Kunj police station.

Police informed the disaster management department. After a rescue operation, Farman’s body was retrieved from the river at about 5 pm on that day. “The rescue teams have so far retrieved the bodies of Farman, Mohammad Ali and Sahil from the river,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Esha Pandey said, adding that the rescue teams are still trying to trace Rihaan.

“Immediately,a team of the district disaster management authority, swimmers from the flood department, boats with search lights, fire department officials, a Cats ambulance and staff from the office of the District Magistrate (East) were called to the spot. Swimmers and divers started searching for the children in the Yamuna with the help of search lights. Around 5pm, the body of one child was recovered from the river,” the officer said on Wednesday.

“Parents of all four children are labourers,” the officer said.
