A road accident on Shaheen Bagh’s outer road has left residents deeply shocked. According to social activist Babbar Khan, who is familiar with the road incident, one youth died and two others were hospitalised with one critical.
He told the OT that a 29-year-old man named Afzal Hussain lost his life after a car coming from the wrong side collided head-on with the bike he was riding along with two friends. The road accident took place around 4:30 am on Wednesday, near The Tiger Gym, Road No. 13A, J Block, Kalindi Kunj Road.
The exact cause of the road accident will be confirmed once the official version is released by the police or authorities. Until then, this report is based on accounts from local residents and their understanding of what happened.
The impact of the collision, caused by a Swift car allegedly driving on the wrong side, was so severe that Afzal died on the spot, while his companions was admitted to Apollo Hospital’s ICU, and the third sustained critical facial injuries, including a shattered jaw, he said.
The news of road accident spread quickly, leaving Afzal’s family and neighbours in Madanpur Khadar, Okhla, devastated. His grieving mother, struggling to hold back tears, spoke of the deep void left by her son’s death. The family, living in a rented room with ailing father and a young daughter, was entirely dependent on Afzal’s income, said neighbours.

“Who will look after us now? There’s no one to earn. My daughter is of marriageable age. We have no one in this world. Everything is gone. They killed my child,” she said, sobbing. “I have nothing no food, no home. He was our only support. Where will I go now?”
She pleaded for justice, demanding accountability for what she called a “murder on the road.”
She told the OT: “Give me justice for my son. Where do I go? Who do I approach?”
Neighbours who gathered at the house in solidarity on Thursday night told the OT that Afzal’s father, suffering from TB, diabetes, and blood pressure, has been bedridden for years and unable to work.
“I used to repair bicycles 10–12 years ago. Now I can’t do anything. My son was earning since childhood,” said Afzal’s father.
Their neighbour said: “The daughter is growing up and needs to be married. The father is unwell. Afzal was the only one earning. Now they are left with nothing.”
The family lives in a single-room rented house shared by seven members, in visibly impoverished conditions.
Afzal’s relative, Muslim, described how dedicated his brother was to supporting the family.
“He used to drive a rickshaw during the day and give training at the gym in the evening. He did two jobs to run the household. And now, no official or police officer has even given us assurance. He had gone to attend a dawat in Jasola and while returning he was hit by a car which was coming from wrong-side.”
He said: “Ask his mother how much pain she’s in. No one can understand what she’s going through. My brother was just 30. My parents are alive, and now they have to watch their son die.”
Babbar said: “The car hit the bike with such speed that Afzal died on the spot. Even after killing someone, the women in the car were seen misbehaving with the victim’s family in front of the police.”
The community is angry over what they call police negligence and political apathy, he said.
“This is the second accident in Okhla within a month. The authorities don’t care. Young men are dying, but politicians and police stay silent. There is wrong-side driving in the area due to poor enforcement: This road connects Noida to UP. It’s a main road and there should be strict monitoring,” he said alleging that local leaders have not visited the family, and no arrests or serious action had been reported at the time of filing this story.
Afzal’s family is now demanding strict punishment for the accused and monetary compensation to support the family.
“They must give us compensation. We have to get our daughter married, pay rent, buy medicines. My father can’t even walk. My brother was everything to us,” Muslim said.
