    Prof Naved Iqbal of Jamia receives British Academy visiting fellowship 2025

    Prof Naved Iqbal, a distinguished academic from the Department of Psychology at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), has been awarded the prestigious British Academy Visiting Fellowship 2025. This international recognition adds another feather to his cap, reinforcing his reputation as a global scholar.

    As part of the fellowship, Prof Iqbal will collaborate with Prof Sarah Halligan at the University of Bath, UK, on a research project titled “Support Available to Refugee Children and Their Families in India and the UK.” The project will analyse comparative support systems, focusing on psychological, social, and institutional factors that impact the well-being of refugee communities.

    This recognition is not new for Prof Naved Iqbal of Jamia Millia Islamia, who has an impressive track record of international academic honors:

    • Invitational Fellowship for Research in Japan – 2024 by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)
    • Visiting Fellow – 2024, Airlangga University, Indonesia
    • GCRF Visiting Fellowship – 2019, University of Leicester, UK

    These accolades reflect his commitment to global academic collaboration and research excellence.

    Global Teaching and Research Engagements

    Prof Iqbal has served as a visiting professor at several leading global universities:

    • St. Petersburg University, Russia (2025)
    • Osaka Metropolitan University, Japan (2024)
    • Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University, Warsaw, Poland (2023)
    • Waterloo University, Canada (2018)

    He has also secured several prestigious international research grants, including:

    • Directors of Associated Studies (DEA) Program – 2021, France
    • Indo-German UGC-DAAD Project (PPP – 2018-19)
    • Indo-Canadian Shastri Research Grant (SRG – 2017-18)
    • GCRF Research Grant – 2019, University of Leicester

    In 2022, Prof Iqbal was also part of the international team that established the UNESCO Chair on Child Maltreatment.

    Prof Naved Iqbal: Academic Contributions

    • Published over 105 research papers in leading journals
    • Edited three academic books
    • Delivered more than 30 invited lectures and presented around 50 research papers internationally
    • Delivered lectures in nine countries and across multiple Indian universities

    His impactful work continues to advance the field of psychology and promote research-based solutions for global challenges.

    Jamia’s ongoing research excellence

    In 2024, Jamia Millia Islamia’s Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET) launched the FET-JMI Research Awards to honor top researchers.

    Awardees included:

    • Dr. Musheer Ahmad (Computer Engineering) – Research Publications
    • Dr. Abid Ali Khan (Civil Engineering) – Sponsored Projects
    • Prof. Sajad A. Loan and Prof. Munna Khan – Patents

    The Vice Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif also felicitated seven FET faculty members listed among the world’s top 2 per cent scientists, as per the 2023 rankings by Stanford University and Elsevier.

    With fellowships, research collaborations, and scholarly contributions spanning continents, Prof Naved Iqbal of Jamia Millia Islamia exemplifies the spirit of academic excellence and international impact.

    Jamia faculty members have done well in research and bagging international awards for their work. In 2024, the Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET), Jamia Millia Islamia instituted FET-JMI Research Awards 2024, for the first time, to recognise the contributions of the faculty members in research.

    The awards were in three categories, Research Publications in SCI journals, Patents awarded and Sponsored Research projects, conceptualised by then Dean Prof Mini Shaji Thomas as an encouragement to appreciate the contributions of the best researchers of the Faculty.

    The FET Research Awards for 2024 were distributed by Jamia Vice- Chancellor Prof Mazhar Asif, to Dr Musheer Ahmad of Computer Engineering for research publications, Dr. Abid Ali Khan of Civil Engineering for sponsored research project, Prof Sajad A. Loan of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Prof Munna Khan of Electrical Engineering received the research award for patents.

    The Vice Chancellor also felicitated seven faculty members of FET for getting listed among the world’s top 2 per cent scientists. Felicitation was for the research credentials of year 2023 published in Sept 2024. The said list, of world’s top 2 per cent scientists, is curated by Meta Center Stanford University USA, and is published by Elsevier every year. Faculty members, who were felicitated at the function were Prof Abid Haleem, Dr Mohd Javaid and Prof Arshad Noor Siddiqee of Mechanical Engineering, Dr Ahteshamul Huque and Prof Tarikul Islam of Electrical Engineering, Dr Musheer Ahmad of Computer Engineering and Dr Faheem Ahmad of Applied Sciences and Humanities.
