2 days after son’s engagement, Johri Farm resident & ex-Jamia student leader Zahid dies in road accident

Two days ago Md Zahid’s house in Johri Farm wore a festive look due to his only son’s engagement. But the joy was short lived as the family members and Zahid’s friends were left shocked after coming to know about his death in a road accident on Monday night, said friends who knew him.

Words of this death spread like wildfire on the social media with Jamia Millia Islamia alumni, including Nasir Sultan Qazi and others, mourning his death.

Zahid, 54, was a former Jamia Millia Islamia Students’ Union president (1982-83) and well know among the alumni and local residents, said his friend Aijaz, who studied with Zahid at Jamia School from Class I until graduation.

Aijaz told the OT over phone that Zahid was going to his hometown in Bijnor when somewhere he met with an accident with his car turning turtle on Monday. He said another person who was also travelling on the vehicle with him sustained serious injuries but is out of danger.

The OT was unable to verify his claim independently.

However, many Jamia alumni shared the accident angle story on their timeline today.

A resident of Johri Farm, Zahid was laid to rest in Batla House graveyard after maghrib prayer today, said a resident.

He said the body was brought to his house in Okhla with residents, family members and friends turning up to bid last adieu.

A businessman, Zahid has left behind a son, a daughter and wife. Residents said he will be missed.
