Professor Mazhar Asif, Sheikh-ul-Jamiah and Professor Muhammad Mehtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia, held a very important and noteworthy meeting with the Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju yesterday to discuss the launch of new projects including establishment of Centre for Excellence building, modern laboratories, classrooms and construction of girls’ hostel under the scheme of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karya Karim (PMJVK).
Kiren Rijiju promises to approve funding proposals
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju appreciated the well-prepared proactive and imaginative roadmap for the future development of the university and pledged full support to the various proposals to make the 105-year-old Central University a national and global hub of education and training. Kiren Rijiju promised to approve the funding proposals submitted by the university for teaching, research, infrastructural development and residential facilities at the University campus.
Recognising and appreciating the vision of Professor Asif and Professor Rizvi to make the university a key player in the key areas of emerging technologies, the Union Minister agreed to approve the proposals of the university and the funds for the following major research projects.
Plans to transform Jamia Millia Islamia
These major projects include the establishment of a state-of-the-art laboratory equipped with 5G and beyond, an advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning integrated cloud computing laboratory with Internet of Things, a research lab for electric vehicles, an advanced digital gaming lab, a creative media and mobile app development lab, and a state-of-the-art infrastructure and research facility, the Advanced XR-Immersive Media Lab. He also promised to set up a Cyber Security Academy at the university’s FTK Center for Information Technology. Furthermore, a proposal for a 100-bed girls’ hostel and an air-conditioned library with a seating capacity of 250 people for the university’s residential coaching academy was also approved.
After the meeting, Professor Mazhar Asif said: “Our goal is to develop the university as a very important university in terms of innovation and creativity, as well as research, which promotes sustainable development and clean energy and makes its invaluable contribution to building a better tomorrow.”
Professor Asif said “with the help of the final projects, our long-standing dream of serving the country by spreading skills and education to the socially and economically backward classes will be realised.”
Professor Rizvi said: “We are working day and night to improve the classrooms, increase the residential capacity and utilise the extraordinary intellectual and research potential of our world-renowned teachers and researchers. These modern and advanced laboratories will provide the university with modern facilities and improved infrastructure, which the university has been waiting for a long time. With the help of these facilities, the university will emerge as a national and international leader in the creation of sciences and the promotion of skills.”

Both Professor Asif and Professor Rizvi expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Rijiju for his continuous support and encouragement towards Jamia Millia Islamia and promised to implement these projects in a timely manner. Reiterating the university’s commitment to revolutionising the lives of minorities, women and the underprivileged sections of the society, Professor Asif and Professor Rizvi reiterated that the support of the Minister, with the incorporation of technology in the classrooms, laboratories, will take the university into a new era which will empower the students and faculty members and will be a harbinger of a new future for the University, society and the country at large, said the university in a statement.
