Jamia Professor Kadloor dies of Covid at 52

Professor Kadloor Savitri of Department of Political Science, Jamia Millia Islamia, has died.

Professor Nisar Ul Haq, Professor Savitri colleague at Jamia, told the OT over phone that she was tested Covid positive on April 8. “She was doing well and taken to a hospital in Faridabad. On Wednesday, she had send message to the department that she was feeling well and would join the department in a few days after recovering from the disease. But today we heard about her demise. Very sad incident. Don’t know what happened,” he said.

Professor Savitri, 52, joined Jamia in 1992 and she was made Head of Political Department four months ago. Originally from Karnataka, she was married to Professor Abdul Rahman Bijapur, who retired very recently from Aligarh Mulsim University. The family resided in Malviya Nagar.

Professor Savitri has left behind a daughter and a husband.

She was visiting Professor, ICCR Chair for India Studies, South Asian Studies Programme National University of Singapore.

She did her BA Honours (Political Science) from University of Delhi, MA (Political Science) from JNU, M Phil, PhD (International Organization) from JNU and MA (Human Rights), University of Leicester, the UK.

She was pursuing a two-year research project as part of the Research Award on issues of identity, equality and non-discrimination in a multicultural society in the context of international and national framework for the protection of minorities.
