    Okhla youth fined Rs 2K for face mask violation while sipping soft drink at public place

    With second Covid wave hitting Delhi, the authorities have started cracking down on people who on those not wearing face masks. A resident said on the condition of anonymity that many bikers faced the heat at Okhla Head on Friday when they were stopped for not wearing face masks.

    He said on an off inspections take place inside the locality. A resident said his son, who on Friday went for some work in Nehru Place, had to pay Rs 2,000 fine for drinking cold drink at public place by removing his face mask.

    He said the fine is too much as my son was left with no option but to pay the fine. He tried to convince the authorities that he was drinking cold drink but to no avail.

    Earlier months ago when cases had increased in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the fine for not wearing a face mask has been increased to Rs 2,000 from what was Rs 500 earlier.

    “Met the L-G and briefed him about the corona situation in Delhi. We agreed that to create effective deterrent so that people don’t omit wearing masks, we need to increase fine from the present Rs 500 to Rs 2000,” he said while addressing a Press conference.

    And as the cases have increased in Delhi in the second wave, Health Minister Satyendar Jain said the clear reason for the rise of the corona case is not known, so we will have to follow all the safety measures; wear masks in public places if you vaccine then also mask is mandatory.

    Jain said: “In Delhi, yesterday there were 1,534 positive cases and the positivity has remained 1.8 per cent.”
