In the Batla House demolition case, many aggrieved residents of Khasra 279, whose houses were marked for eviction and whose deadline expired on June 11, have received interim relief.

“So we recently received two orders, one dated June 13 and the other June 16. On 13th as well, 11 petitioners had gone to the Delhi High Court, and again on the 16th. The petitioners of June 13 also got a stay, and by the grace of God, the stay order for those of June 16 also came this afternoon. So in both cases, there were two petitions, each had 11 petitioners, 11 applications. Both have received stays. So now, in total, there are around 27 buildings. First, there was Ishrat Jahan who got a stay then four others, then eleven, and after that another eleven,” residents’ petition counsel Advocate Fahad Khan told the OT on Batla House demolition case.

The interim relief is up to July 10 as the Delhi High Court has listed the matter for hearing on this date, before the Roster Bench, and in the meantime, it ordered parties to maintain the status quo.

Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan had told the media that notices were initially issued to 52 structures.

The Batla House demolition notices were issued following May 5 Supreme Court order directing the DDA to take action of demolition of illegal/unauthorised structure in Khasra No.279 at Village Okhla in relation to the area lying outside PM-UDAY colony boundary. The order had also clarified that if the occupants are aggrieved by the notices of demolition, they are free to adopt appropriate proceedings in accordance with law. Following which residents approached the courts after eviction notices were pasted on their houses on May 27 giving them 15 days time to move out.

Initially, residents approached the Supreme Court by filing applications to intervene in Contempt Petition. However, the Supreme Court vide order dated 02.06.2025 has now listed the matter for consideration on 15.07.2025.

NOTE: This is developing report as many residents had approached lower court also for interim relief.
