    Insurance policy for advocates renewed by Delhi Govt

    Insurance policy for advocates renewed by Delhi Govt

    Delhi Government has renewed the Life Insurance Term Policy for Advocates under Chief Minister Advocates’ Welfare Scheme till 19.10.2023. The Delhi Government had implemented the “Chief Minister Advocates’ Welfare Scheme” for the Advocates in November 2020 with an annual outlay of Rs 50 crores. Under this Scheme Group (Term) Insurance providing life cover of Rs. 10 Lakhs is given to the Advocates and Group Medi-claim coverage up to Rs. 5 Lakhs is also given to the Advocate, their spouse and two dependent children up to the age of 25 years.

    The scheme also envisages for E-Library with ten computers loaded with e-journals, web editions of e-journals and printers in all the six District Courts namely, Tis Hazari Court, Patiala House Court, Karkardooma Court, Saket Court, Dwarka Court and Rohini Court. It also provides for creches free of cost in all six district courts.

    At the time of its launch in November 2020, about 24 thousand Advocates had registered themselves under this scheme. Now, the number of Advocates who have registered themselves under the scheme has gone up to 30,000.

    Since the beginning of this scheme, more than 3000 Advocates have taken the benefit of Medi-claim policy. The Group Medi-claim policy has been renewed on 16-05-2022 for the next one year.  The Delhi Government has paid more than Rs. 26 crores to New India Assurance Company Ltd for the renewal of this policy.

    Similarly, Group (Term) insurance providing life cover has also been renewed on 20-10-2022 for the next one year. The Delhi Government has paid more than Rs. 16 crores 32 lakhs to the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) for the renewal of this policy. More than 163 families of the Advocates have been given a claim of Rs. 10,00,000/- each under the Group (Term) Insurance Policy.

    In a statement, the Law Minister of Delhi Kailash Gahlot said: “I’m happy to announce that we have renewed the Life Insurance Term Policy for the Advocates under Chief Minister Advocates’ Welfare Scheme till 19.10.2023. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, we are committed to the welfare of our legal fraternity.”
