This is notable that Jamia Teachers’ Association (JTA) annually celebrates the Teachers’ Day by felicitating teachers who superannuate in a cycle of one year.

The programme began with the address of JTA Secretary Dr. M. Irfan Qureshi who gave a glimpse of the history of Jamia citing the role of founders and Gandhi in a bit by bit building of Jamia.

He cited the contribution of teachers’ fraternity in making the university a world class institution.

Chief Guest Prof. Asghar Wajahat expressed his thanks to JTA for organising the event to honour all the teachers, especially retired ones. He emphasised on the importance of teaching which changes the lives of students forever for good.

Prof. A.S. Kohli, former President of JTA, said the contribution of present JTA is enormous and they have lived up to the expectation of the teachers in and out of the university.

They are from time to time approaching the government and UGC for various issues which reflect their grit to serve the teaching community of Jamia. He also gave a message to retired colleagues that they should live life to the fullest and spread the message of education to marginalized sections of the society.

Dr. Mohsin Ali from the Department of Persian was felicitated on being conferred with the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) Fellowship. Prof. Nafis Ahmad, Vice President of association said that they have major concerns to revive the old pension scheme, and that public funded universities should not go into the hands of the so called ‘Board of Governors’. He also expressed vote of thanks.

Besides, a main function was organised by Office of the Dean Students Welfare (DSW) at the Auditorium, Faculty of Engineering & Technology of the university where Vice chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar was the Chief Guest.

Teachers who have superannuated after their long valuable services to the university were felicitated by the respective Deans and the Vice Chancellor. Deans of the university explained about the achievements of their Faculty and teachers in the recent past.

Speaking on the occasion Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar said it is heartening to see that Jamia celebrates Teachers’ Day with great zeal and excitement and follows the ideals and principles of Radha Krsihnan in letter and spirit.

“We have to refurbish our system as per the latest demands, keeping ourselves abreast of the fresh perspectives of our country on education. It is high time that we should give exclusive attention to our growth and development in line with the requirements laid down by NEP 2020. In case we lag behind, we will not be able to bring forth a fine harvest of young men and women,” said the Vice Chancellor.

She further said it is the need of the hour to lay due emphasis on the in-service education, with a special focus on keeping abreast of the latest development and the requirement in the IT field.
