    Okhla MLA Amanatullah gets bail

    Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan gets bail, according to his close aide. Firoz told the OT over phone that the MLA, who was presented in the court today, got bail a few minutes ago. When asked when he will be released, he said it might be after 8 pm after all papers are cleared.

    After his arrest from the anti-encroachment drive in Madanpur Khadar where he had gone to expressed his displeasure about the drive, Khan’s wife had appealed Okhla shopkeepers to keep the shops closed. Many shops were closed in solidarity with the MLA.

    Khan, was detained earlier on Thursday for protesting against an anti-encroachment drive carried out by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) in Madanpur Khadar area. Later in the night, has been sent to judicial custody. An FIR was lodged against him. Besides the AAP MLA, five others were arrested by the police on charges of rioting and obstructing public servants from discharging duty. Those arrested included, Zakir-Nagar-based AAP leader Khateeb Thimami, Okhla leader Minatullah and others.

    On Thursday from the site, Khan said: “I am ready to go to jail if it saves the houses of poor people. There is no encroachment here. I will support them [civic body] in demolition if there is any encroachment.”

    The court granted the bail on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of like amount, after hearing the submission of counsel for the accused and Delhi Police.

    “The fact that accused is no more required for custodial interrogation, and considering a submission made on behalf of accused and above stated facts and circumstances, application moved by the IO for judicial custody of the accused is hereby rejected and accused Amantullah Khan is granted bail,” the judge said.

    Khan was arrested on Thursday in connection with a case registered at Kalindi Kunj Police station for allegedly creating obstructing public officials from discharging their official Duty during a demolition drive in the Kanchan Kunj area near Madanpur Khadra. He was produced before the duty magistrate, who sent him to one-day judicial custody till today.
