His son SM Sualeh Naved, a Jamia alumnus, told the OT over phone that his father was unwell for the last many years and was undergoing treatment.

“In December end of 2021 his health conditions deteriorated and in January we got him admitted to Fortis and he was there for 20 days. His condition was critical but he recovered after some days. For the last two weeks he was in home and on Wednesday his oxygen level dropped and he stopped speaking. We consulted doctors but he passed away on Friday,” said Naved.

Born in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, in 1936, he served Jamia for years retired some 25 years ago. He was Head of Department of Geography (1994-1996).

He joined Jamia as Lecturer in 1972 and superannuated from active service during 1999. He obtained his PhD in Geography from Aligarh Muslim University in 1969. He had great research contribution in the form of numerous publications and research supervision and he authored three books on rural India.

His colleagues, students and Jamia fraternity are saddened with his demise.

The Professor has left behind five children, including four daughters and one son, all well settled and pass-out of Jamia. Sajid Husain was related to Dr Weqar Ahmad Siddiqi, a Professor at Jamia.

My father had a distinguished career spanning an thirty-six years with primary focus on stagnant developmental issues pertaining to the rural India, delivering a purposeful and progressive outlook towards women and child health, mainly in North-Indian States, said Naved.

“My father’s literary contribution extended beyond the constraints of field of surveying, cartography and medical geography and has contributed a treasure chest of articles and speeches in English and Urdu, providing an expert insight on sweltering issues like environment conservation, sustainable energy sources, ecology, disaster management studies, socioeconomic balance aspects and several other modern social issues prevalent in society,” he said.
