Kejriwal hands over Rs 1 cr cheque to family of Dr Gupta who died of corona

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal handed over a cheque of Rs 1 crore to the family during his visit to meet and offer condolences to the family of Late Dr. Aseem Gupta of LNJP Hospital. Dr. Gupta lost his life due to COVID-19 a few days back.

Kejriwal said one crore is a very small amount and is a symbol of Delhi’s respect and honour towards Dr. Gupta. He also said that he will remain like a brother to the family and will solve any difficulties that may come in the way of Dr. Gupta’s family. He also said that Dr. Aseem Gupta was a ‘People’s Doctor’ and it is the government’s duty to support families of people who lay down their lives to save others.

Kejriwal reached the residence of Late Dr. Aseem Gupta of at Dilshad Garden at around 12 pm on Friday, where he paid floral tributes to Dr. Gupta. Meeting the family members of Dr. Gupta, Kejriwal assured them of full support from the Delhi government.

Following his interaction with the family members, a cheque of Rs. 1 crore was handed over to Nirupama. Dr. Asim Gupta was an anesthesiologist at LNJP hospital and his duty was in the ICU. For the past few months, he was deputed for the treatment of Corona patients. While serving the patients, he also got infected and succumbed to Corona a few days back.

Kejriwal’s tweet read: “Met with the family of Late Dr. Aseem Gupta ji who lost his life to Corona. We cannot do anything to bring back the “People’s Doctor”, but it is our duty to support families of those who lay down their lives for us. An ex gratia of ₹1 crore was given to the family today.”

Kejriwal said: “Dr. Aseem Gupta was martyred while treating and saving the lives of Corona patients. This is a very big loss for us. The biggest support for Delhi is the way its doctors, nurses, and all the paramedic staff are working and saving the lives of the people.”

“I spoke to some colleagues of Dr. Aseem Gupta, just like Dr. Suresh who is the head of the LNJP hospital, who told me that Dr. Gupta never cared about getting infected from Corona. He served the patients with his full capabilities. Even his neighbours tell me that Dr. Gupta was the first to come forward and help as soon as anybody needed help in the colony. Such noble souls are difficult to find. I met his family, his wife Nirupama Ji is also a doctor in Noida. There is no value attached to anybody’s life, but the compensation of Rs. 1 crore offered to his family is nothing but just an honour on our behalf. I am like a brother to her, if the family faces any difficulty in the future, she can tell me anytime without any hesitation. She works with the UP government right now and wants to transfer to Delhi. We will try our best to shift her to a Delhi government hospital,” he added.
