Sixty eight tandoors were dismantled in the Central Zone, 80 tandoors were dismantled in South Zone, 40 tandoors were dismantled in West Zone while 20 tandoors were dismantled in Najafgarh Zone, he said.

During the course of action, the civic agency ensured conversion of 152 tandoors into LPG out of which 55 are from Central Zone, 19 are from South Zone, 55 are from West Zone and 23 are from Najafgarh Zone.

Sehrawat said the SDMC is committed to control pollution in the city hence it has taken action against charcoal and wood fired tandoors which are traditional types of tandoors.

He said there are many factors responsible for air pollution and tandoors based on charcoal and wood at various restaurants, hotels and eating joints are also among them.

“Owners of restaurants, hotels and eating joints have also been made aware of bad effects of such tandoors and instruction has been given to convert such tandoors into LPG,” he said.

The LOH said the SDMC is making all efforts to control increasing levels of pollution and will initiate such action in future, if required.
