Watch: Today I went to Maktaba Jamia for Payame Taleem but what I saw was sad: Jamia alumnus

Today, I went to Maktaba Jamia Limited near Jamia Gate No 18 for buying a subscription of Payame Taleem but got to know that the printing of Payame Taleem is been stopped due to Covid-19, writes Mohsin Jawed, a Batla House resident and Jamia alumnus.

But outside the office building I saw many copies of Payame Taleem, Kitab Numa and other magazines lying outside in the rain which is very sad.

A resident said Payame Taleem and Kitab Numa are excellent books and very old magazine and it is deeply upsetting to know this and it only highlights the fact that how Urdu is being killed in Jamia whose very foundation was laid to impart knowledge in mother tongue due to which the university’s forefathers parted ways with Aligarh Muslim University.

Other residents and Urdu lovers were left deeply upset with it. University officials could not be reached for their comment. Once the OT gets their statement it will be incorporated in the report.

Maktaba Jamia, publishing house, was established in 1922 and it was known for publishing high quality literature in Urdu for the commoners.

For the last many years, the Maktaba is known to be one of the largest Urdu publishing houses in India.
