The development was followed after reports surfaced of moon not been sighted in Saudi Arabia. Many Okhla residents were on their rooftops looking for the moon. This means that residents will have to keep one more roza.

With second wave of Covid raging, the Eid celebrations this year around will be very low-key. Also, like last year this year too residents will be offering Eid namaz at home for safety reasons.

Jamia Millia Islamia Jama Masjid has already announced that it won’t be holding Eid prayer.

In India, Ramadan began on April 14.

Fasihullah Khan, president, Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association, Delhi-NCR, has issued an appeal to Muslims, urging them to stay at home.

“During these testing time of the pandemic, we would request all Muslim brethren especially AMU community to show solidarity and offer Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at home and not at mosques or Eidgahs.

“We also request our Aalim-e-Deen, masajid Imams and community leaders to request their families and communities to please pray at home and avoid becoming a spreader of this disease that has already impacted the lives of so many people.

“We, particularly, urge all AMU Alumni Associations/ groups and Aligarians to take a lead in passing this message across all Muslim households and communities across Indian States as an stringent measure towards protecting oneself, the community and humanity at large. We wish you all a very happy, prosperous and safe Eid-ul-Fitr,” he said.
