    Jamia celebrates National Science Day

    1. Jamia celebrates National Science Day

    National Science Day is celebrated in India on 28th February every year to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C V Raman, Nobel Laureate. It is a day of great pride for the scientific community in India.

    National Science Day 2021 was celebrated at Jamia Millia Islamia, with support and encouragement of the Vice Chancellor, JMI, Prof. Najma Akhtar, from February 26-28th with a series of online events.

    The celebration started with a full day programme of seminar presentations on their research work by the PhD scholars on Friday, 26-2-21. Around 22 research scholars drawn from almost all the Departments/Centers of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, nominated by the respective Heads/Directors gave extremely interesting talks with research topics ranging from cosmology, catalysis, nano-science to privacy and cybersecurity, COVID 19 and immunoassays, chaotic systems and the efficacy of physical activity. The presentations were judged by a panel of subject experts from the faculty.

    This was followed by Public Lectures on 27-2-21 by Prof Joby Joseph of the Department of Physics, IIT, Delhi on “Photonic Crystal Structures, Fabrication through multi- beam interference & Applications”.

    On National Science day itself, 28-2-21, the programme started with a report from the Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, JMI on the research activities and achievements by the Faculty and students followed by the National Science Day Lecture by Prof. Amit Roy, Former Director, Inter-University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi on “Quest for the Origin of Elements: Nucleosynthesis”.
