    Ministry of Power wins inaugural match of Power Cup 2021 T-20 cricket tournament at Jamia

    Ministry of Power wins inaugural match of Power Cup 2021 T-20 cricket tournament at Jamia

    Power Cup 2021(Delhi), a T-20 cricket tournament is being organised from 20th February to 21st March 2021 amongst teams from various power sector CPSUs and Ministry of Power at NMAKP Sports Complex, Jamia Millia Islamia.

    The inaugural match of the tournament was played Ministry of Power versus NHPC at NMAKP. The match was won by Ministry of Power by 2 wickets which scored 99 in 19 overs after bowling out NHPC for 98 runs in 20 overs.

    In the other league matches of the tournament, NTPC won against POSOCO by 4 wickets by scoring 113 runs in 20 overs with loss of 6 wickets against 112 runs scored by POSOCO, POWERGRID won against REC by 77 runs after posting a score of 169 and bowling out REC for 92 runs and PFC won against EESL by 7 wickets by scoring 98 with loss of 3 wickets against 97 scored by EESL.

    Alok Kumar, Secretary (Power), Government of India inaugurated the tournament on February 20.

    NHPC Limited, India’s premier hydropower company under the leadership of A.K. Singh, CMD, NHPC is the nodal organization for organizing this tournament.

    Speaking on the occasion, Alok Kumar, Secretary (Power) Government of India extended his good wishes to all the participating teams of the tournament.
    He further said sports provide an excellent platform for personality development and building up team spirit and camaraderie amongst Ministry of Power and Central Power Sector PSUs.

    In his welcome address A.K. Singh, CMD, NHPC extended his gratitude to Secretary (Power), Government of India for sparing time from his busy schedule and coming and encouraging all the players taking part in the tournament.

    He said the tournament is seeing participation of 8 teams including teams of Ministry of Power, NHPC, Powergrid, NTPC, PFC, POSOCO, EESL and REC. He also mentioned that a friendly cricket match was recently played between Ministry of Power and Power CPSU team wherein R.K. Singh, Union Minister of State (I/c), Ministry of Power, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Minister of State, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship had said that organizing sporting events among power CPSUs/ organizations are ideal for bringing cohesion and team building amongst various organisations under Ministry of Power.
    Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC, R.S. Dhillon, CMD, PFC, K.V.S. Baba, CMD, POSOCO, Saurabh Kumar, Executive Vice Chairman, EESL, N.K. Jain, Director (Personnel), NHPC, Y.K. Chaubey, Director (Technical), NHPC and other senior officers from the participating organizations were also present on the occasion.
