Bater (Quail) meat is now available in Okhla thanks to one shop in Abul Fazal Enclave which is selling it for Rs 100 a piece.

If you walk through the shop you will find a few birds hanging. The demand is yet to pick up, said one resident who is found of eating bater after its farming and breeding started happening in India.

As the bird’s meat demand has gone up in Bengaluru, according to media report, several poultry farmers are now rearing them more than ever, both for meat and eggs.

It is turning out to be a delicacy in homes across the country, said one resident, adding that the meat is tasty.

The shopkeeper was heard saying people do come for enquiries but as it is new in this locality it will take time to win their trust and make it popular.

“The meat is nutritious and flavourful. It’s a healthier alternative to broiler chicken,” said Seemantha Baruah, executive chef at The Bier Library, reported the ET.

“Till about a few years ago, the quality of quail eggs in Bengaluru wasn’t that good, but it has changed now because of the increasing demand,” chef Julius Jack said.
