    Jamia Professor Ashraf’s extraordinary accomplishment

The eminent National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) has duly acknowledged Prof. Mohammad Zahid Ashraf, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), by conferring upon him the prestigious Fellowship of the NAMS.

The profound recognition has been accorded to him for his outstanding contributions in discerning the pivotal influence of high-altitude hypoxia in the pathogenesis of blood clotting disorders.

In a grandiloquent ceremony held during the 63rd NAMS convocation at the precincts of Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru. Prof. Ashraf was awarded Fellowship by his Excellency the Governor of Karnataka, Thaawarchand Gehlot, in presence of Prof. S.P Singh Baghel, MoS-for Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, and Dr. Jitendra Singh, MoS-Science and Technology, Government of India.

NAMS (India) is the premier institution that cultivates and harnesses academic prowess as its prime asset in achieving medical and societal objectives.

JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar congratulated Prof. Ashraf for the achievement and wished him more success and good luck for future endeavours.

Prof. Ashraf’s remarkable research has garnered him accolades from India’s foremost scientific academies: the Indian National Academy of Sciences, the Indian Academy of Sciences, and the National Academy of Sciences.

The recent fellowship conferred by NAMS serves as a testament to his groundbreaking investigations into high-altitude-induced thromboembolic disorders.

Through his pioneering studies, he has substantially enriched our comprehension of the demographics, mechanisms, genetics, and pathophysiology underlying thromboembolic disorders, thus charting a course for the development of pivotal interventions and therapeutic modalities.

Prof. Ashraf’s extraordinary accomplishments in the realm of medical sciences have earned him widespread acclaim. Notably, he received the distinguished 2021 Visitors (President) Award in the Biological sciences category, along with the esteemed ICMR-Basanti Devi Amir Chand Award. Furthermore, he holds the distinguished status of being a member of the prestigious Guha Research Conference.
