Winged guests flock Okhla as mercury dips

Migratory birds have arrived in Okhla Bird Sanctuary. It is expected that their numbers are expected to increase as the temperature decreases further.

A bird watcher, who is regular at OBS, said 16 species of winter migratory water birds were spotted this year.

“Graylag Geese, Eurasian Coot and Northern Shoveler and other species were seen. One species of IUCN Red-listed threatened bird – Common Pochard, also spotted. Through the forthcoming AWC 2022 in January 2022 the exact status of the winter migratory water birds will be known,” said TK Roy, ecologist, conservationist, and AWC Delhi State coordinator, Wetlands International.
