MCD poll 2022: Wajid Khan registers first win, gets ticket from AFE ward despite opposition.

Despite stiff opposition from Okhla AAP leadership, sitting Councillor Wajid Khan anyhow has succeeded in winning his first battle to get ticket from AAP. In the list announced a day ago, Khan’s name from Abul Fazal Encalve is in the list sparking celebrations in Jamia Nagar with his supporters dancing and distributing sweets in the locality.

However, his journey to victory won’t be a cakewalk, said political watchers of Okhla. Khan is up against anti-incumbency as during his five years rule of Abul Fazal Enclave, the former Councillor has been accused of doing little to improve the situation in the locality. Residents and his critics said despite his promise to end garbage mess on AFE-Hari Kothi road in front of a private hospital and at Shaheen Bagh he has failed to do so. Moreover, Khan’s supporters are hopeful that he will be able to win second term due to his connection with people.

The 250-ward Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) goes to polls on December 4 and the counting of votes will take place on December 7. With less than a month, preparation for the election is in full swing in Okhla and across Delhi with AAP trying hard to topped the BJP from MCD as the saffron party has ruled it for three terms.
