MIM submitted memorandum over Urdu missing from police stations’ signboards: Kaleem Ul Hafeez

A memorandum was submitted over Urdu missing from police stations’ signboards in Delhi, according to All India Majlis-e-Ittehad Delhi president Kaleem Ul Hafeez.

“We met top police officials and informed them about the development,” Hafeez told the OT over phone adding that it had come to his notice after many Urdu newspapers carried reports about the missing Urdu from two police stations in Jamia Nagar.

It is sad to see that Urdu which is accorded the status of second language in Delhi is being ignored and its need to be fixed, he said.

Earlier, names of the police stations in Jamia Nagar had Urdu on its signboards but it is missing from the new boards put up very recently, he said.

Punjabi and Urdu have the status of second official language and the Act clearly states that names of boards will also be in Urdu, said the MIM in a statement issued to the media.

“A petition has been submitted to the Commissioner of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police and DCP. A special meeting has also been held with Delhi Police Commissioner South East Delhi in this regard. Copies have also been sent to Delhi Urdu Academy and Delhi Minority Commission,” he said.
