The boy has been identified as Mohammad Amir, said Ghaffar Manzil resident Shadab Alam.

The boy was residing in a rented house in Haji Colony with his father Jamaluddin, he said.

The body of the boy was fished out of water near the Okhla Tank area by the fire department officials. Earlier swimmers made efforts and it was found after hour of search operation with many locals turning up at the spot after words spread in the locality fast about the boy being drowned.

“Jal Board work was going on in the area and as a result water accumulated there. The body of the deceased was taken out from the water, and further investigation is on,” said a senior police officer, reported IANS.

“We received a call at around 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday evening and immediately teams were sent to the spot.” said a fire department official.

According to Amir’s father Jamaal, the incident happened around 3.30pm when the teen went out to play with his friends as reported TOI.

“Since I work as a tailor with a private garments company, I was not at home. A family member informed me that my son had drowned while trying to save two others,” said Jamal.

The family has not ruled out the possibility of a foul play. “I don’t know why he had gone to the DJB site while it was raining,” wondered Jamaal.
