Okhla bids tearful adieu to Quran hafiz who died of cardiac arrest

A large number of Okhla residents turned up at the Batla House graveyard today to bid tearful adieu to Quran hafiz and Muezzin of Batla House Jama Masjid, Mumsad Ahmed, according to residents.

Local leader Mahmood Ahmed said Mumshad Ahmed, 58, was fine all these days until he suffered a heart attack this morning while teaching students in Batla House Jama Masjid and passed away instantly.

He was a popular figure in the locality as in the absence of the mosque Imam he used to lead the namaz, said Mahmood, adding that large number of people attended his last journey and everybody was talking about the loss to the locality as he used to even teach youngsters.

Tadfeen was held at Batla House graveyard after Isha prayer today.

A resident of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, Mumshad Ahmed like many other Okhla residents had come to Delhi years ago and was residing in Batla House with his family.

He served the community well and taught several youngsters to read Quran, Urdu and Arabic, said residents.

He has left behind 3 sons, all hafiz and 3 daughters and a wife, said Mahmood.
