After losing his job as embroidery worker in Okhla, Meeraj, who is originally from Rampur in UP, but residing in the locality for the last 35 years, didn’t lose hope and started selling tea from door to door.

Like others, who have tea stall, Meeraj, who had no seed money and nobody to help, started selling by moving around in the locality and if you reside in Abul Fazal Enclave you see him regularly. “I start my morning early to make sure to hit the road at 9 am and work till 9 pm every day to earn livelihood and take care of four children all daughters. I am working hard to save a few bucks to have money in years to marry my daughters,” said Meeraj.

Meeraj said his tea comes cheap for Rs 5 for masala lemon tea and Rs 5 for milk one. He carries two bags with him and move around from street to street the whole day shouting: “Tea, tea.”

He said he came to Okhla in 1988 when the locality was still developing. Life for Meeraj, who has just studied up to Class 10, is no cakewalk.

Residents know him well and some buy his tea daily to support him. “He is a hard working and honest man. I buy I cup of lemon tea from him daily,” said Ali Md.
